But welcoming a stranger into your territory can be difficult for your companion.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the time, if an introduction is made too quickly, the relationship between the two animals can start off on the wrong foot and be difficult to recover afterwards.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Here are a few tips to help your pets get along better:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put your new pet in an isolated room when you arrive. Wait several days, or at least several hours, before introducing everyone.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your old companion has got used to the presence of the new one in his room before introducing them.<\/li>\n<li>Provide high spots and hiding places for your cat.<\/li>\n<li>Never carry your cat when showing it to others, and never put it in a cage.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your dog on a leash when introducing him to your cats.<\/li>\n<li>If the meeting is between two dogs, have them get to know each other in a neutral, stress-free environment (e.g. a park or garden).<\/li>\n<li>Use rewards or play to associate everyone&#8217;s presence with pleasure.<\/li>\n<li>Be patient and don&#8217;t intervene in their dispute.
