These extreme conditions can make daily life and survival difficult for stray cats.<\/p>\n<p>Have you seen a kitty around your home? Would you like to help her and give her warmth and security during the winter?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Here are a few steps to help you build a good shelter easily (and cheaply!):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose <strong>two large plastic bins<\/strong> of different sizes to fit one inside the other. Here are the two models we bought: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadiantire.ca\/fr\/pdp\/bac-emboitable-restore-de-type-a-40-l-0423421p.html#srp\">40L<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadiantire.ca\/fr\/pdp\/bac-emboitable-68-l-1422843p.html#srp\">68L<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Use the right materials to <strong>insulate your shelter<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canac.ca\/fr\/product\/materiaux\/isolation-insonorisation\/panneaux-isolants-rigides\/panneau-isolant-br-foamular-400-br-1-po-x-2-pi-x-8-pi_13301.aspx?page=1036&amp;mgp4=categorie%3d1060%252c1104%26filterorder%3d0%252c0%26ovr%3dtrue%26root%3d1056&amp;galst=materiaux\">Styrofoam<\/a> (polystyrene) or straw (it&#8217;s important not to use hay).<\/li>\n<li>Make a <strong>small 6-inch opening<\/strong>: no bigger than the size of the whiskers and placed on the side of the shelter (not in the middle, as the cold would get in everywhere).<\/li>\n<li>You can add a <strong>fleece<\/strong> blanket to the bottom of the shelter.<\/li>\n<li>Place your shelter in a <strong>quiet<\/strong>, secluded spot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elevate your shelter<\/strong> and place it on pieces of wood. This is to keep snow and water out and heat in.<\/li>\n<li>Consider putting<strong> weight on the shelter<\/strong>, such as a board or stones.
